Winter time starts on Sunday, the clocks are officially changed from three in the morning to two in the morning. The time adjustment also affects some domestic and international trains, as well as night bus services.
The autumn time change always takes place on the last Sunday of October, which is the beginning of winter time. The spring time change is due at dawn on the last Sunday in March.
In Hungary, the spring and winter clock change was introduced for the first time in the middle of the 20th century, between 1954 and 1957, due to electrical capacity difficulties, then it was abolished, and it returned to people's lives only in 1980, with the aim of saving energy. With this, the daylight hours could be used much better and less electricity was used.
However, since the 2000s, it has been debated every year whether the change is really necessary, because even though a change of one hour in spring and one hour in winter does not seem like much, it still has an effect on the human body.
In many people, it disrupts its functioning and upsets the hormonal balance, so those who are more sensitive to it are exposed to the problem every year.
In addition, it serves the previous energy saving goal only to a very minimal extent, since it was calculated that in 2018 only HUF 450 could be saved this way per person.
