In the Slovak county elections, the Upland Hungarian party called Szövetség won about a quarter more representative mandates than its predecessor parties five years earlier; In the municipal elections, independent candidates won most of the mayoral positions and almost half of the mandates - MTI quotes the official final results published by the Slovak Statistical Office (SÚSR) on Sunday afternoon.
Representatives of the Alliance of Hungarian parties will be there in all five counties inhabited by Hungarians, with a total of 54 mandates. In 2017, the Hungarian Community Party (MKP) and Most-Híd won a total of 42 seats, so the united party made great progress, Felvidek.ma reported.
As they write, the Association ran two candidates for county president, both of whom were successful. József Berényi doubled his votes compared to 2017, with 38,052 votes and came second in Nagyszombat County behind Viskupič, who won again. Tibor Csenger came third in Nyitra County with 35,064 votes. Both county presidents also won the battle of representative candidates in their districts.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the result achieved in the election is a joint success of all Hungarians in Slovakia. The cooperation of the Hungarians from the highlands bore fruit. Zsolt Semjén expressed his hope that the elected representatives will be able to use the trust they received from the voters and create a strong representation of Hungarian interests.
