Borders can be protected more effectively and better with international cooperation - Minister of the Interior Sándor Pintér emphasized on Monday in Hercegszántó, Bács-Kiskun county. He said that the southern Hungarian border section, as well as the Schengen external border, is currently guarded by Hungarian, Slovak, Czech, Austrian and Turkish police.
Greeting the Slovak and Hungarian police officers assigned to perform border policing tasks, Sándor Pintér said: although they are far from home and making sacrifices, they should know that public order and public safety in Slovakia are more solid if the Hungarian borders are protected and illegal migration is suppressed.
According to the Minister of the Interior
Hungary's position is clear: illegal migration should not be dealt with within the borders, but outside the European Union, and the defense lines should be moved as far away from the borders as possible.
He emphasized: the Hungarian government is aware that Hungary alone cannot protect all of Europe's external borders, but by making the necessary efforts and effectively implementing the Hungarian border guard, they can set an example for others, so that illegal immigrants trying to reach the European Union can be apprehended as far from the border as possible. migrants, he said.
Sándor Pintér emphasized: Hungary is no longer alone in this way of thinking. The land borders of the European Union are protected by fences in Lithuania and Poland, and Slovakia, among others, sends 40 police officers to the territory of Hungary, and they constantly participate in the border guarding work.
In an interview with the public service medium, the Minister of the Interior recalled that, compared to 2015, migration pressure is currently the greatest in the southern border section. In the past period, about 224,000 people attempted to cross the border using increasingly violent methods and equipped with increasingly harsh tools, endangering the lives of policemen protecting the border, he added.
According to Sándor Pintér, despite all efforts, organized crime always finds a gap in the defense wall in one place or another, which is why the police tried to arrest 21 illegal border crossers fleeing in a vehicle on Monday. The measure was successful,
the illegal migrants were captured, and later also the fleeing human smugglers who shot at police patrols.
Roman Mikulec also thanked the police officers who have been serving at the borders for years. He called it a useful recipe that secondary, internal migration can be prevented by protecting the external Schengen borders.
He reminded: at the recent Prime Minister's meeting in Prague, the participants agreed that the external Schengen border should be better protected and that as many countries as possible should join in this work. The control and protection of the internal borders will never be as effective as the external borders, he added.
Roman Mikulec thanked the Minister of the Interior Sándor Pintér, on the one hand, for the cooperation for the more effective and better protection of the Schengen borders, and on the other hand, for the mutual support to jointly convince the European Commission and the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, Frontex, to put more emphasis on to protect the borders, as it affects not only Hungarians and Slovaks, but is everyone's problem - said the Slovak Minister of the Interior.
