The meeting of diaspora scholarship holders studying in Hungarian higher education has started in Sátoraljaújhely, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county, organized by the Rákóczi Association and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The meeting was opened last night, and today the series of programs continued with lectures. The event will be held at the Rákóczi Hotel, Camp and Event Center with the aim of allowing the scholarship holders to establish direct contact with each other and with their peers from the Carpathian Basin studying at the Balassi Institute.

Flóra Katona, the communications manager of the Rákóczi Association, said that the meeting of diaspora scholarship students studying in Hungarian higher education could be organized for the second time.

The purpose of the meeting is for students from different countries studying at Hungarian universities to meet, get to know each other and strengthen their knowledge of the Hungarian language. He added that the Rákóczi Camp receives thousands of students every year, and they believe that the weekend of the diaspora meeting is a good opportunity to strengthen their Hungarian identity and bond with the nation.

Péter Szamosvölgyi, the Fidesz mayor of Sátoraljaújhely, spoke to the participants about the origin of the settlement's name and the characteristics of the wine region of the Tokaj Mountains, which includes twenty-seven settlements. The head of the city presented the history of Sátoraljaújhely and the region in detail, focusing on the period of the conquest, the Rákóczi War of Independence, the situation following the Trianon decision in 1920, and the conditions after the world wars.

In his presentation, he talked about the current situation in Sátoraljaújhely, saying that they built a sports hall, renovated the city's public buildings and all their schools. He also singled out the Hungarian Language Museum in Széphalm, which belongs to Sátoraljaújhely, adding that in the last three years this institution had the most visitors out of all county museums.

He emphasized that at the end of next year, the bridge of National Unity will be completed, which will cross from Szár-hegy to Vár-hegy. The bridge will be 720 meters long and 1.4 meters wide, with a two-eight-meter glass surface in the middle.

In addition to the mayor, security policy expert György Nógrádi will give a lecture, followed by an excursion, a Tokaj wine tasting and a dance hall. The event ends on Sunday with Holy Mass and worship.
