The government is strengthening Hungary's defense with an Israeli radar system, Magyar Nemzet wrote in its Monday issue. "A world-class Israeli radar system capable of detecting and tracking aerial and artillery targets will be at the service of the Hungarian Defense Forces next year. Already proven as part of the Israeli Iron Dome and Vaskupola air defense system, the Hungarian military industry is also involved in the production of some units of the locators," the article states.

The arrival of the radar system was announced by Minister of National Defense Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky after he held talks with Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz in Jerusalem.

"The Hungarian Minister of National Defense explained in relation to the Israeli ELTA radars: the two countries have long had a close and excellent relationship in defense as well. He added: "In the Hungarian military development program, the defense industry, which is considered to be the latest engine of the Hungarian economy and has received a new impetus, already has significant Israeli threads woven into it, indicating that the Hungarian Defense Forces, among other things, is regularizing the Spike guided anti-tank missiles of the Rafael company," the Magyar Nemzet reported. .

The contract for the procurement of eleven ELM-2084 type airspace control, air defense and artillery reconnaissance radars was signed in December 2020 by Colonel Ferenc Korom, then commander of the Hungarian Armed Forces, and Stéphane Oehrli, the president and CEO of Rheinmetall Canada Inc. The old Soviet P-37, PRV-17 and SZT-68U radio locators of the national defense are being replaced with equipment containing the "active phase-controlled" (AESA) radar technology of the Israeli company IAI ELTA, the article reads.
