A significant amount of crude oil was found at the border of Mol Vecsés, at a depth of 2,100 meters, the company began exploratory drilling in the area in July, where after performing the necessary tests, it was proven that a previously unknown crude oil field had been discovered, the oil company announced on Monday.
The new well will start with a production of 600 barrels per day, the later planned production of 700-1000 barrels will increase the crude oil production of Mol Hungary by about 10 percent and Hungary by 5 percent. The Vecsés–2 oil well became Mol's third highest-yielding well in Hungary, and it is the only one capable of causing the entire annual natural yield decline of the aging Algyő field, they wrote.
It is recalled that Mol won the research concession for the area around Vecsés in 2015. After carrying out the preliminary geological tests, the location of the research drilling was selected in the border of Vecsés.
The drilling, which began in July, lasted 31 days and reached a depth of 2,100 meters.
During the necessary well tests, it was proven that the oil find is suitable for economic exploitation, so the well was put into production on November 11. The oil is delivered directly to the Dunai Finomító in Száhahalombatta.
Zsolt Hernádi, president and CEO of the Mol group, highlighted in the announcement: every drop of crude oil extracted in Hungary contributes to reducing the country's energy dependence, which is why this research success is a joy. Stocks currently in production are constantly depleted, this is part of a natural process. Huge efforts are made to keep production at a level.
Mol is planning additional drilling in the area to exploit the field and increase production, said Zsolt Hernádi.
