If the European Parliament's plan were to be implemented, and the European Union imposed immediate and complete sanctions on all fossil energy and nuclear energy from Russia, Hungary's economy would immediately stop, said István Hollik, Fidesz's communications director, in a video statement delivered to MTI on Saturday, in which the national consultation encouraged to fill it out.
István Hollik talked about the fact that the "extreme left-wing and pro-sanctions majority" of the European Parliament adopted a resolution in which they demand that the EU "impose immediate and complete sanctions" on all fossil energy from Russia, i.e. petroleum and natural gas, as well as nuclear energy.
This is completely unacceptable for Hungary - stated the politician. He added that this EP decision also "clearly shows what Brussels' aim is".
"They are not willing to take into account the harmful economic effects of sanctions, and they have no intention of changing the sanctions policy that is ruining Europe's economy, in fact they are working full steam ahead on the ninth sanctions package," he noted.
István Hollik added: if the EP's plan were to be implemented, "then Hungary's economy would stop immediately".
"That's why we have to say no to this pro-sanctions decision. This also shows that there are still difficult battles ahead of us, in order to be able to protect Hungary's interests against the failed sanctions."
he said. He added:
that is why it is important that as many people as possible fill out the national consultation.
"If millions of Hungarian people express their opinion about the sanctions, Brussels cannot ignore it," he stated.
