The famous Roland Szabó Zoo and Botanical Garden rents a luxury car for more than twenty million forints - this is revealed in the public report published by the Zoo. However, the case is just icing on the cake, as this is not the first case linked to Szabó. The operational director, who enjoyed the support of Gergely Karácsony for a long time and was considered a confidant of Deputy Mayor Ambrus Kiss, was able to keep his leading position despite the fact that he was publicly accused by the police of fraud and the use of false private documents.
Tens of millions of dollars in waste and waste of money are taking place at the capital zoo characterized by the operational director Roland Szabó - at least this can be inferred from the 2021 financial report, in which some details of the contracts concluded by the zoo, exceeding five million forints, were published. Browsing the data, he immediately noticed that one of the five-year agreements was about renting a luxury car, for example. The use of the BMW X3 xDrive30d M Sport hobby SUV costs more than HUF 22 million, and it is a good question why the zoo needs to rent such a costly vehicle. Of course, we shouldn't be so surprised by this waste, since Szabó, mentioned as a confidant of the deputy mayor Ambrus Kiss, is forced to explain himself in much more serious matters.
In November 2019, Roland Szabó became the operational director of Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden, After the resignation of Director General Miklós Persányi, on March 1, 2020, Mayor Gergely Karácsony entrusted Szabó with the temporary duties of Director General, and then in September of that year, the Metropolitan Assembly accepted the call for an open tender aimed at selecting the Director General.
