Zsuzsa Hegedüs emigrated to Paris in the 70s, where she obtained a degree in sociology. He could not come to Hungary for ten years. As a sociologist, he dealt with new social movements in France and Western Europe, then developed the theory of the emerging global, self-creative society. His most important publications on these topics were published in French, English and Italian.
After the regime change, he belonged to the intellectual core of the SZDSZ, and was the founder of the Tégy a güyülölt movement. In the 2000s, he confronted the MSZP-SZDSZ government led by Ferenc Gyurcsány During the Orbán governments, he was the prime minister's chief advisor , and took part in the right-wing Roma integration policy.
