Head of State Katalin Novák also met Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid on Friday, in whose person the President of Hungary visited the Middle Eastern country for the first time.

"We are having a historic meeting with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid, as the President of the Hungarian Republic has never been to Iraq before.

Mr. President and I agreed that the common enemy of our countries is international terrorism, which we condemn in all its forms. Hungary's role is not only shown in words, but also in deeds, as a significant military force is involved in the fight against the Islamic State," Katalin Novák posted about the meeting on her official Facebook page.

According to the Sándor Palace, the presidential meeting also discussed the Hungary Helps Program, through which Hungary actively participates in helping the most critical sectors and the most vulnerable groups, such as children, women and Christians.

"We are convinced that help should be taken to where the problem is"

- said Katalin Novák.

They also talked about the Russian-Ukrainian war with Abdul Latif Rashid. They agreed that the parties should make peace as soon as possible, since no one is exempt from its effects.

After that, Katalin Novák visited Tell-Askuf, which experienced the horrors caused by the Islamic State in the last decade.

Several buildings and the church of the settlement had to be rebuilt, in which Hungary also took the lion's share. As a sign of their respect for our country, the members of the local community refer to their settlement as "Tell Aszkuf bint al Madzzar", i.e. the daughter of Hungary. The head of state also visited a local kindergarten.

Katalin Novák visited the model farm operating in Alkosz, which was supported by Hungary Helps.

From there, she visited the Rabban Hormzid Monastery, where she met Lara Yussif Zara, one of Iraq's four female mayors.

During the day, the President of the Republic will meet with Nechirvan Barzani, the President of the Kurdistan Region.
