The National Board of the Hungarian Association of Transylvania issued a statement regarding the fact that Romania cannot join the Schengen zone. The article was brought to you by the site szekelyfold.ma:

The public's indignation is understandable after Austria and the Netherlands voted against Romania's Schengen accession in the European Union's Interior and Justice Council, as this would not only have meant positive progress in the fields of everyday life, transport, exports and foreign investments, but also the unity of Europe. could have indicated in the current world political environment full of uncertainties and crises. At the same time, we have to see: the political elite in Bucharest also has a considerable – if not directly decisive – responsibility for the failure of our accession to the Schengen area.

We are convinced that if Romania had invested only half as much energy in the actual implementation of the Western integration, which has been voiced and desired so much at the level of political slogans, than it did in the 19th century, which stemmed from empire-building reflexes and wanted to unite Moldova with Romania, today we would have a greater chance of being a full member of the Schengen zone. its rightful member. The fact that this did not turn out to be the case may have played a decisive role in that

some member states of the European Union - especially in this war situation - do not want one of the members of the Schengen area - as a result of an unexpected turn and secession not agreed with the community - to border Transnistria, which would represent a huge security risk as a breakaway region in the east of the Republic of Moldova , and this would bring a live war conflict within the borders of the EU.

At the same time, it has been proven again and again in the past period: Romania is not willing to give up its policy based on the desired territorial acquisition, what's more, the number of those who put unification on the agenda has reached unprecedented proportions, not to mention the billions of our tax dollars, which are used as subsidies taken from the regions inhabited by Hungarians to build the ever closer relations between the two states. The anti-Hungarianism elevated to state policy, the inciting statements of the Romanian president against our community, and the continuous and planned attacks on Transylvanian Hungarians also indicate that Romania is not ready to join the Schengen area.

It can therefore be concluded: the failure of our Schengen accession is a serious learning loss and an ugly failure of Romanian foreign affairs, and the events also highlight the value of the promised support of the Euro-Atlantic leaders, even though Romania tried in every possible way to be a "model country" and the most reliable ally.

However, in light of what happened, it would be expected if Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu would also draw the appropriate personal consequences and take responsibility for the failure.
