Prime Minister Viktor Orbán arrived in Qatar on Tuesday evening, where he held a meeting with Qatari Prime Minister Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, said Bertalan Havasi, the prime minister's press chief.
After that, Viktor Orbán watched the Argentina-Croatia football match on the spot - at the invitation of FIFA. The prime minister gave several interviews to Qatari media, and then that night he traveled to Brussels for the EU-ASEAN summit on Wednesday, where the leaders of the EU member states and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations are negotiating with each other, Bertalan Havasi said.
I like it when cultures meet and play with each other under the same rules of the game in the same sport, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said to Qatari journalists on Tuesday.
The Hungarian Prime Minister talked about the football World Cup held in Qatar that he would try to follow the matches from home, but - as he noted - this would be difficult, as he had to work during the day, so he only had time to do so late at night.
He emphasized that the World Cup in Qatar is not only spectacular, but also exciting. At the same time, Viktor Orbán highly appreciated the organization and the fact that Qatar decided to spend the money to host the whole world.
He also considered it important that the World Cup be held in an Arab country.
Recalling the saying "If you are in Rome, do as the Romans do", he stated that it is very good that the world is being hosted in an Arab country, which must respect the local customs and way of thinking.
As he said, this is important not only for football, but also for understanding a different outlook on life.
