Almost 265,000 border violators have been caught so far this year, compared to 114,000 in the same period last year, the prime minister's chief adviser on internal security announced on Saturday on the current channel M1.
György Bakondi said that the number of illegal border violators has more than doubled not only in Hungary within a year, but the situation is similar in other states as well. Among the arrivals are more and more Bangladeshis and Pakistanis.
He noted that the migration situation is becoming more and more complicated, and that the European economy and security will be the "sufferer".
György Bakondi pointed out that the Hungarian government was right in insisting on protecting its borders since 2015 and not allowing anyone to enter the country illegally.
"It is not expected that migration will decline, all preliminary forecasts show that growth will continue," said the chief adviser.
In response to a suggestion, he said that the Hungarian authorities are ready to provide assistance to the countries located on the so-called Western Balkan migration route in order to stop illegal border violators outside the Schengen zone.
