On the first of January, dr. Melinda Karácsoni-Pej was appointed head of the Internal Audit and Integrity Directorate by Viktor Orbán. According to the government decree published in the Magyar Közlöny, the appointment is for four years. Dr. Melinda Karácsoni-Pej previously worked at NAV's Directorate General of Crime as Deputy Director General of Crime.
The organization under Tibor Navracsics, the minister responsible for territorial development and the use of EU funds, primarily investigates conflicts of interest in development projects implemented with EU grants. According to the description on the ministry's website, the tasks of the Board include the sample verification of declarations of conflict of interest and declarations of interest, the investigation of reports aimed at establishing a conflict of interest, the identification of potential conflict of interest situations and risk analysis, and it also ensures that the actors of the development policy institutional system are more aware of how to avoid conflict of interest situations. In addition, the authority operates an anonymous reporting system, maintains contact and cooperates with the national security services and bodies performing law enforcement tasks.
The Board of Directors reports annually on its activities to the independent Integrity Authority established to prevent, detect and correct fraud, conflicts of interest and corruption, as well as other violations and irregularities related to the implementation of any EU financial support.
