The Orpheus Animal Protection Association draws attention to the protection of domestic animals during the New Year's Eve fireworks display.
The harsh sound and light effects of pyrotechnic devices used at New Year's parties can cause shock panic for pets. With a little attention, unpleasant situations can be prevented as a result of New Year's Eve firecrackers, the association said.
Cats frightened by firecrackers can cause sharp bites to their owners, dogs try to escape from the explosions by jumping over fences or ripping the leash from the owner's hands. Do not take your pets out to the firework sites under any circumstances. Animals fleeing in alarm can cover 5-10 kilometers (the distance of several settlements) in a few hours. There are cases where escaped pets are never found again - the announcement quotes Zoltán Seres, an employee of the Orpheus Animal Protection Association.
Therefore, the association asks pet owners to have the mandatory microchip in the dog registered by a veterinarian with the owner's data, because if someone finds the animal, the owner can be reached more quickly.
It is also worth tying dogs and cats with a ticket collar containing the owner's contact information,
so that the finder can easily reach the owner. In order to prevent trouble, dogs should be walked with extra caution (on a leash) in the designated walking areas between Friday and Monday, the announcement says.
The announcement explains that it is worth providing pets in homes with a place isolated from direct street noise, for example an interior room or part of the yard, a garage, or a well-fenced yard. For more fearful animals, it is also worth taking care of a sedative recommended by a veterinarian for the duration of the firecrackers.
Only half of them are found.
On average, 800-1000 dogs are reported to us every year, but in Hungary the real number of dogs that go missing at this time can be several thousand, and only a little more than half of them are returned to their owners - Attila Pintér, Szilveszteri Allatmentő Ügyelet, says this already its main organizer told Blikk. They will also be on call in the coming days.
