The Democratic Coalition uses a public interest data request and files a lawsuit against the government, and they would even go as far as Strasbourg because they did not receive overhead support from the cabinet. At the same time, the VII. district received a central contribution. According to the party, this happened because the district leader was already on his way to the meeting.
The mayors of the Democratic Coalition in Budapest are filing a lawsuit because, in their view, Viktor Orbán refused to grant their districts' utility bills out of political revenge. Sándor Szaniszló, the head of the DK's Budapest faction, said on the Spirit FM program: if necessary, they will take the case to Strasbourg. The XVIII. according to the mayor of the district, it would have been acceptable if the districts had been allocated what they finally received based on a clearly visible calculation structure.
Sándor Szaniszló said that they plan to ask Gergely Gulyás, the minister in charge of the Prime Minister's Office, how it was decided who gets what.
The VII. led by Péter Niedermüller. the head of the DK's Budapest faction also provided an explanation regarding the support awarded to the district. Sándor Szaniszló revealed in his above-mentioned program that the DK politician leading Erzsébetváros was also informed that the mayors of the Gyurcsány party only negotiate together on the utility subsidy.
However, Péter Niedermüller was already on his way to the consultation and decided not to return, so the consultation took place and the district received HUF three hundred million government support.
Pál Zsigmond Barna, a member of the Fidesz parliament, wrote an open letter to Tibor Déri, the former momentous, now independent mayor of Újpest, who also did not go to the consultation called by the government, so the IV. district also lost hundreds of millions of forints in support. Pál Barna Zsigmond explained in his letter:
I was shocked to hear the news that Újpest, as a victim of their political tactics, lost at least half a billion forints in state overhead subsidies, thanks to the fact that the left-wing leadership did not go to negotiate with the government. It is outrageous that you were not willing to participate in these negotiations due to the political machinations of Ferenc Gyurcsány's party, while these discussions were the basis of the government's decision as to which municipality needs what amount of help. Regardless of party affiliation, those who went and proved that they needed help received it. Your comparison cost the people of Újpest hundreds of millions of forints. I think I can write on their behalf that you should have the interests of our district in mind, not Ferenc Gyurcsány, the representative wrote in his open letter.
The background to the case is that in the fall of 2022, the government initiated a consultation with the leadership of each settlement with a population of more than ten thousand people in order to review the increase in the burden on local governments caused by runaway energy prices in the context of a conversation. Prior to this, they requested the basic data on the operation and the plan that the respective municipalities had developed in order to achieve the required 25 percent savings.
Civilik Info: Forgive me, but this reminds me of poor István Szilágyi, alias Mr. Sipos, and the lottery advertisement, those who don't play don't win. The position that if they give me money, I won't go there is beyond ridiculous. It seems that his people do not dare to tell Gyurcsány that he is not in government. He is not the one to say to whom and under what conditions support should be given. Give it a try, dear mayors, whoever dares wins!
