Today started with tragic news, the policeman who was stabbed by a man late last night in XI. district. Two of his companions were also hospitalized, their attacker was wounded by a fourth policeman, so the killer is also being treated in the hospital. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán also spoke about this terrible incident at the beginning of his radio statement on Friday.
The Prime Minister expressed his condolences to the family of the murdered policeman and promised to take care of them. What happened shocked everyone because this kind of thing is extremely rare in our country, which also means that the police are doing their job well here. While we cannot forget that police work is dangerous. Unlike the so-called western big cities, we are not used to such cases.
Viktor Orbán said about the year 2022 that it was a very difficult year, after covid the war broke out on us, the energy crisis came because of the failed EU sanctions, but he responded to these things with defensive measures. For example, we created an overhead protection fund, into which the money we took from those who achieved extra profit went. From this, it was possible to ensure the partial maintenance of utility protection, without this, the livelihood of 1 million families might have been at risk. This is why families with average electricity and gas consumption can save HUF 181,000 per month. Not everyone understands this, since the postman does not bring it, but it helps and protects families. In general, it can be said that we have entered the age of dangers, but we have responded well to them. The Prime Minister expects this from his government in 2023 as well.
The sanctions policy of the Union is in no small part the cause of Europe's crisis. If the sanctions were lifted, energy prices would drop significantly and in half immediately, but inflation might drop even more. For this, there would have to be a "strong person" who would say: We've nailed this. Courage is there, at least in our country, but force is also needed to change the sanctions policy. For that we would have to be German or French. We only try to stop the damages, we cannot change them. The Prime Minister is afraid that this situation will not change soon, that the misfortune will continue.
In response to a question, Viktor Orbán said that when it turns out, when talking to EU politicians, that the utility allowance provided to families in Hungary is around 450 euros per month, they do not believe it at first. Because it is unimaginable for them, because it is an expensive thing. This money must be taken from someone so that it can be given to the needy. Where can I get it? From those who have extra profit due to the energy crisis or inflation. We did it, and to their credit, those involved acknowledged that they also had to temporarily do their part in crisis management. However, they cannot do this in the other EU member states.
There was a point when it seemed that the debate over EU funds had come to a standstill, but Brussels is attacking again. The European Commission wants to prevent students from higher education institutions operating in the form of foundations from participating in the Erasmus program. The prime minister stated that there will be an opportunity to study abroad, because either we will be able to reach an agreement with Brussels, or if not, the government will provide this opportunity from the budget. Students do not go on vacation, but to study, and this is an investment that is important for the country. It is in our national interest to take advantage of the potential inherent in the talents of young people. The question is, of course, what kind of people are there in Brussels who want to take revenge on the students.
Speaking about the reasons, Viktor Orbán explained that Brussels wants a change of government, a government that allows migrants and LGBTQ promoters into schools, and they envision a large European state, and we are not asking for any of these. They advocated and even paid for a change of government before the election and are still working on it today. That's why they bought the Hungarian left, but that's not what the Hungarians want. So now they are trying to force us to our knees financially. It would be easier with Brussels, but the sun will rise without their help. Fortunately, we have financial reserves that allow us to resist attempts we don't like.
The Hungarian economy is doing well, which of course does not mean that the situation is easy. But according to the signs, Hungarian businesses - with the help of the government - are able to protect jobs.
Speaking about wages, Viktor Orbán explained that these issues do not fall under the government's decision-making scope and it will remain so. According to the Prime Minister, our wages will also rise in real terms. We will not give up the big national goals either, and an important part of this is to reduce inflation to single digits in 2023. The second goal is to maintain economic growth, which is also the goal of the 2023 budget.
