After the town of Munkács, the Hungarian national flags were also removed from the public institutions of the Hungarian villages of the Munkács sub-region, and the city police had to be deployed for this in Fornos. The signs in Hungarian were removed from the building of the football academy of the Hungarian-maintained Munkács FC in Dercen. Finally, several well-respected Hungarian heads of institutions close to the KMKSZ were also dismissed in Munkács and its neighboring villages.

In Fornos and Dercen, the heads of local institutions (schools, kindergartens) were instructed by their superiors in Munkacs to remove the Hungarian national flag from the buildings of their institutions. According to them, there is a decree that from now on, no other flag can be used in public institutions, only the Ukrainian one. For example, the Hungarian flags were removed from the walls of the kindergarten and school in Fornos on the afternoon of January 13. On the other hand, the Hungarian tricolor was still flying on the building of Fornosi Községháza, which, according to witnesses, was only taken down at midnight by four employees of the municipal police (Municipalna Polícia). The witnesses also reported that it was not thrown away, but rather neatly rolled up and placed by the entrance. The next day at noon, they appeared and checked whether the Hungarian flag had been returned to its place. In neighboring Dercen, the Hungarian flags were also removed from public institutions, where the city police also come out to check compliance with the alleged decree.

The Hungarian flags have already been removed from the Hungarian institutions of Munkács town, the only exception being the non-state-owned Munkácsy Mihály Magyar Ház, which has not yet been taken down. If there really is such a regulation, it can only be at the local level, because, for example, in the public institutions of the Hungarian villages of the neighboring Nagylucska region, our national flag is still waving in the wind even now, despite the fact that they also belong to the Munkács district.

According to information, the Munkács Regional Council did not adopt such a decree. According to one member of the Executive Committee, they did not deal with the issue of Hungarian flags either. If there was such a regulation, it would conflict with higher-level legislation.

Statement of the Basic Labor Organization of the KMKSZ regarding the dismissal of István Schink

The Basic Workers' Organization of the KMKSZ is puzzled by István Schink, the Workers' Union II. Principal of Ferenc Rákóczi Secondary School, leader of the KMKSZ faction of the Munkács City Council, before his dismissal from the position of school principal without any real reason.

During the seventeen years of István Schink's directorship, he earned respect from the Munkac community of teachers and citizens, and the educational institution he led improved significantly in all indicators.

We believe that in the current difficult situation, the dismissal of the principal does not serve the smooth operation of the Hungarian school and the peaceful coexistence between the nationalities.

We call for an immediate review of this ill-founded decision.
