Human Rights Watch called on Kyiv to investigate the allegations made by the organization.
Reuters writes that Human Rights Watch called on Ukraine to investigate the allegations. According to rights activists, the Ukrainian military used thousands of rocket-launched landmines, or anti-personnel mines, in and around the eastern city of Izhyum when the Russians invaded the area.
In a statement, Human Rights Watch noted that it had previously accused Russian forces of the same. However, it seems that
the Ukrainian forces also scattered a large amount of landmines around Izhyum, which continues to claim civilian casualties.
The fact that the Russians also use it does not justify Ukraine's use of these prohibited weapons, they added.
According to Human Rights Watch, these tools cannot distinguish between civilians and combatants, thus violating international humanitarian law. They reminded: Ukraine previously signed the relevant 1997 convention, while Russia did not.
The New York-based lawyer conducted research in and around Izjum, Ukraine, between September 19 and October 9. More than 100 people were interviewed: witnesses, victims, doctors.
