The second Off-Season International Contemporary Festival will be held in Veszprém between February 23 and 26 with more than a hundred programs at thirteen locations. The festival is a prominent literary event of the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture program, which focuses on those frontier genres - fantasy, comics, lyrics, hip-hop, sci-fi, crime fiction - that many people like, but rarely encounter at cultural events. . Here are 5 programs that we think are not worth missing!
During the four days of the Dead Season, in addition to the creative workshops and performances, the Magyar Krimiszemle will organize a crime meeting for the first time, and the festival will host one of the biggest Hungarian hip-hop celebrations of the year 2023, at which popular musicians such as Beton.Hofi will take the stage . Several international artists will join the event, including Viennese comic book artist Leopold Maurer Finnish youth novel author Kira Poutanen
In addition to the various performances, the festival also places great emphasis on the involvement of the audience, which is why a number of workshops - comic book making, crime writing, song lyrics, puppet theater, creative writing, conceptual graphics, graffiti workshops - will await the visitors, and at this year's festival they were able to put a significantly greater emphasis on equal access.
H. Miklós Vecsei and his orchestra, supplemented by the Kiégő Izzók, created their latest concert theater performance based on the works of János Pilinszky and Sándor Csoóri. OPENING THE CUBE will debut in the Offseason on February 23 at the Expresszó.
"In the performance, we will describe a life, but not what happened to him, but what he noticed. In addition to the many abstract essays, we have chosen poems that, on the one hand, can be well set to music and, on the other hand, amplify the feelings described in the essay. Musically, this is interesting because it is not just about setting it to music, but also about the fact that the music had to follow the mood of the entire oeuvre. This is how an alternative, almost progressive rock record from Pilinszky's oeuvre came together", added the Junior Prima award-winning actor.
Hungary's first Crime Festival debuts within the programs of the Dead Season. Thanks to the Magyar Krimiszemle team, many domestic creators and experts of the genre will come to Veszprém to shed light on all mysteries related to Hungarian crime fiction.
How is the comic made? In this workshop, Erhardt Domonkos and Zoltán Fritz will provide an insight into the craft of comic book drawing.
The comic can contain cubes and bubbles, the drawing tools are provided, the participants only need their creativity to fit the fictional stories onto the one-page, still empty comic page. Those who don't like to draw are also welcome, because, as they say, stick figures are also a great way to tell a story.
Off-season events can be visited for free again this year, but some events require prior registration.
