Fidesz and KDNP submitted a proposal for a parliamentary resolution on the one-year anniversary of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Máté Kocsis (Fidesz) and István Simicskó (KDNP) reminded him in their resolution proposal: the war between Russia and Ukraine has been going on for a year, and there is no sign that it will end in a short time.
The consequences are dramatic: the war has already claimed hundreds of thousands of lives and caused the biggest humanitarian crisis in Europe in recent years. Europe is living the days of drifting into war. The European Parliament demands additional arms deliveries. Fighter jets, helicopters, missile systems, tanks and more ammunition would be sent to the battlefield. Some of the member states have already committed themselves to further arms deliveries. These steps could lead to a world war, the representatives wrote.
They added: in view of these and the clear message of the April 2022 election, the Parliament expresses its commitment to peace and expects all members of the international community to act for the sake of peace as soon as possible and to avoid steps that lead to the expansion of war.
According to the proposed resolution, Russia's military aggression is repeatedly condemned and Ukraine's right to self-defense is recognized.
"According to our point of view, the economic sanctions adopted in Brussels did not quell the war, nor did they bring the Russian economy to its knees. In fact, Europe is financing Russia's war by paying the high energy prices resulting from the sanctions. The energy sanctions sent energy prices soaring, causing economic damage and rampant inflation in all EU member states. There is no family that does not feel the burden of sanctioned inflation," reads the proposed resolution.
The representatives state: they oppose the Brussels plans that would further broaden the range of energy sanctions. A complete freeze on gas and oil imports and a ban on the import of nuclear heating elements would cause significant security of supply disruptions and even greater inflation in many member countries, including in Hungary, they wrote, adding that they expect "the decision-makers in Brussels not to make decisions whose economic damage is greater than benefits that are difficult to predict". They emphasized: "it is unacceptable that Europe, including Hungary, should be the main economic burden of the war".
In the proposed resolution, the representatives also point out that since the outbreak of the war, Hungary has carried out and is carrying out the largest humanitarian aid operation in its history, and they call on the government to continue helping refugees from Ukraine in every possible way.
They draw attention to the fact that the military conflict is seriously affecting the Transcarpathian Hungarian community. Many people have already given their lives in the war, while the selection process is still ongoing in order to bring more Transcarpathian men to the front line, they wrote.
They emphasize: Hungary is a committed member of NATO and the European Union, and as a full member and sovereign state, Hungary will do everything to promote peace. "The results of the April 2022 elections and the consultation on sanctions are clear, based on these we confirm: instead of arms shipments and additional sanctions, peace negotiations are needed as soon as possible," they wrote.
According to the resolution proposal, the representatives call on Hungarian public figures to "refrain from such resolutions and political actions that could cause significant economic damage to our country or lead to Hungary drifting into war."
The continuation of the war, the transportation of weapons that cause death, may cost the lives of thousands of people, and lives can only be saved with an immediate ceasefire, negotiations and peace, they wrote.
