Michelle Goldberg published an opinion piece The New York Times , in which she discusses that Florida is starting to resemble Hungary more and more.
The author writes: The government of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán passed a law in 2017, the purpose of which was to expel the Central European University, the school founded by György Soros, from the country. After that, the university was forced to move to Vienna, thereby helping Orbán, whose goal was to dismantle Hungary's liberal democracy, Goldberg believes.
The author of the article explained that many people on the American right admire the way Orbán uses the power of the state against cultural liberalism, but
few emulate him as faithfully as Florida governor and widely believed future Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis.
For last week, one of DeSantis' legislative allies introduced House Bill 999, which, as The Tampa Bay Times reported, would enact DeSantis' "broad ideas for higher education ."
