The state forest farms pay special attention to keeping the forest areas they manage in a waste-free state, from 2020 to the end of 2022, nearly 20 tons of illegal garbage dumps were eliminated in the forests, the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) announced on Friday.
According to the announcement, the state forestry enterprises are dedicated supporters of the protection of the natural environment, and they increase and supervise Hungary's natural heritage at a high professional level.
There is no sadder sight than when you go on a hike with your family and find piles of garbage and illegal waste dumps in the forest. Let's Clean Up the Country! within the framework of the project, the forests and fields will also be freed from waste, because the state forestry companies also joined the program by freeing the areas under their management from illegal waste, they wrote.
In order to implement the program, the HulladékRadar application was created, with which visitors to the forest can report the basic data and location of illegal waste placed and detected in the forest.
Based on the indications of the users of the application, 2,728 cubic meters of illegal waste have been transported so far, while the state forest farms have transported an additional 16,465 cubic meters of garbage and hazardous materials from the illegal landfills discovered by the companies. Unfortunately, however, the number of illegal deposits has continued to increase in recent years, they added.
In the past few days, several barrels of unidentified - presumably dangerous - waste material were found on the edge of the forest area in the border of Csemő managed by NEFAG Zrt.
Several crates of other materials, also harmful to the environment, were also deposited near the barrels. In cooperation with the competent authorities, based on the investigations, it was found that a number of extremely dangerous substances for the environment were placed, which were removed and disposed of. Among the displayed materials were cadmium chloride, mercury, nitric acid, and lead acetate. Thanks to quick detection and intervention, the materials did not harm the environment.
The police's criminal inspection committee also examined the scene and, within the framework of the ex officio procedure, the investigation against the perpetrator(s) is currently underway with great force. Illegal dumping of waste can be classified as a violation or even a crime in Hungary.
The penalty for illegal disposal of hazardous waste can be up to five years in prison. Anyone who notices an illegal garbage dump should report it via the HulladékRadar application, AM asks in the announcement.
