I had breakfast! Latte and a slice of cake.
Dear reader, do not despise me because it is a luxury in my life that I eat a slice of cake every morning with my latte. I know, in today's inflationary world, this is considered a luxury, and it is conceivable that the fans of the shadow government will still criticize me for this, but nevertheless I do not want to give up this habit. Although I'm slowly coming to the point where I'm going to give it up, because in recent months the products called cakes can be said to be anything but cakes. Their consistency - or, using the fashionable term of the gastro-society, their texture - is more similar to the old-fashioned sourdough bread or the Szeged loaf than to the cake.
I tried to buy cakes in countless places, and the texture was the same for all of them, the braided ones were mostly flavored with vanilla flavor, the ones that were advertised as flaky were not flaky, and the cocoa ones weren't even worth mentioning. It seems that they don't know the real cake in the bakery school anymore. This in itself is annoying, especially if we consider the price these days. The assortment is quite large, for a half-kilo cake, they charge from HUF 850 to HUF 1,400. Never mind, quality could be given for that much money. But it's not just about the cake, it's about baked goods and breads that crumble after a few hours and are inedible the next day, and they're not cheap either. Why?
Of course, if you ask a baker, he will explain that the price of raw materials, the price of energy, the cost of wages, transportation, the war, the Brussels sanctions, the exchange rate... However, this does not mean that you cannot make good, delicious food. Honorable exceptions. However, one can think about the explanations, since among the objections, no one has yet said that the fault lies in professional knowledge and attitude. No, because the honor of the uniform is more important than the truth. Thus, the letter "i" is slowly disappearing from the truth.
People shouldn't be fed such a vile product while they preach about conscious shopping and food waste.
