Dzul Szirousz and Olha Onipko manage a shelter that can temporarily accommodate LGBTQ people fleeing war-torn regions, the newspaper reported.
Sirousz and Onipko news agency reported that "the war actually united Ukraine."
"Even Ukrainian society has changed, we started helping each other," said Onipko. "This is the main reason Russia will not win because we are not divided. We are one nation," he emphasized to the news agency.
As is known, Ukraine does not allow same-sex couples to marry for the time being, and so far only "small" progress has been made in the area of anti-discrimination laws.
However, there are many queer soldiers serving in the military, who were also recently presented at a photo exhibition in Washington. In addition, this was the first time that the Ukrainian ambassador also participated in an LGBTQ event, Humenonline pointed out.
The paper recalled that the Ukrainian LGBTQ community refuses to give in to the fear caused by the attacks, last year, for example, the Kharkiv Pride was held in the subway, where queer soldiers who died in the war were also remembered.
