Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister of Hungary, Radio Kossuth Good morning, Hungary! was the guest of his show on Friday morning. Zsolt Törőcsik first asked the Hungarian Prime Minister how much chance he sees of the Russian-Ukrainian war really turning into a world war.
A year ago, Orbán said, he still hoped that this armed conflict would not escalate into a war, that few countries would be involved, that it would end soon. "The exact opposite happened," he added. According to estimates, the number of victims on both sides is over one hundred thousand, and masses of the most serious human tragedies occur every day. Regarding the war, he said:
Viktor Orbán: There is the West and the others
- stated the Prime Minister, including China and Africa among the latter, who are calling for an immediate ceasefire. According to him, the position of the West is markedly different from theirs, and according to him, Western leaders are "burning with war fever". As an example, he mentioned that at first the Westerners only promised the Ukrainians helmets, but now it is a "common theme" that they would send fighter jets and even soldiers.
The world has never been so close to a local war becoming a world war, he emphasized.
The Hungarian prime minister said in the program: "Hungary is the only pro-peace state in the West, besides the Vatican", adding that "everyone else is pro-war, but the interests of individual countries are different", he added. According to the prime minister, "there is a lot of business speculation here and the exploitation of opportunities arising from the post-war situation. Those who claim that such aspects do not influence their decisions should not be believed".
The prime minister stated: "the army is not a luxury and not a historical custom," said Orbán. According to the Prime Minister, the weaker a country's army is, the more it is at the mercy of others. According to the Prime Minister, Hungary should have the ability that "when there is trouble, everyone knows what to do." Regarding the latter, according to Viktor Orbán, "we are not doing well because we are used to war," explained the prime minister.
The prime minister sees that in Hungary the left is pro-war, while those on the national side are pro-peace. "Fortunately, the latter are in a convincing majority," he said. According to the Prime Minister's view, as long as the left and the media linked to them are financed from abroad, they will be pro-war.
"As a responsible politician, I cannot speculate on the possible outcome of the war. There are those who would change the traditional balance of power in Europe," said the prime minister.
During the Ukrainian war, it is important that the Ukrainians can fight as long as the United States wants to, he said, adding: "the Americans are directly involved in European politics because of the war."
In relation to inflation, Viktor Orbán said that by December 31, the monetary deterioration will be in the single digits.
"Inflation must be brought below ten percent by the end of the year, and the necessary decisions have been made by the government," he added. According to the prime minister, the 20 measures taken against inflation are widely accepted.
Viktor Orbán said that if "sanctions were lifted tomorrow, inflation would be halved and would return to a 2-3 percent range. There is currently no chance of this in Europe, and we cannot abolish the sanctions policy. We can veto sanctions decisions that would directly threaten Hungarian interests".
According to him, there is an irreconcilable contradiction in child protection issues. "Brussels insists that the role of parents in raising children can be relegated to the background. "Brussels would entrust the raising of children to activists," said the prime minister.
"Once we only notice that the number of pedophile crimes increases. Parents have the right to have the government protect their children, he added.
These are irreconcilable contradictions, and since we will not give in, Brussels will have to give in in the end," concluded the Prime Minister.
