Not only do we draw strength from their stand, but we also get an example of how we should stick to our national identity. The cause of Székely freedom is the common cause of Hungarians from here and beyond, János Árpád Potápi, the State Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office responsible for national policy, said on the occasion of the Székely Freedom Day on Friday.

The State Secretary emphasized in his statement sent to MTI: not only do we draw strength from the stand of the Székely people, but we also get an example from the Székely-Hungarian communities of how we should stick to our national identity.

He added:

where the Székely flag flies, every Hungarian is at home. Like the people of Székely, they support all Hungarian communities in using and being able to use symbols of their identity.

János Árpád Potápi emphasized: the demand for self-determination of the Székely people is not an unprecedented yearning, similar autonomy models operate in several member states of the European Union. These examples also prove that if a national community has self-determination and can freely exercise its rights necessary for survival, it does not weaken, but rather strengthens the given country, he emphasized.

He assessed that the people of Székely, who protected the borders of our country for a thousand years and had autonomy until the second half of the 19th century, and even for a short time during communist Romania, deserve to be supported in their struggle for their survival.

The state secretary emphasized: the European Union has repeatedly stated that it does not want to take steps to protect national communities.

We Hungarians must stand up for our communities, whether it is about uniting for the Transcarpathian Hungarian community, which is in a difficult situation due to the war situation, or supporting the cause of our Székely compatriots.

He emphasized: the Székely people, like the other Hungarian national communities of the Carpathian Basin, can count on the support and support of the Hungarian government.
