The renovated Kinizsi Castle in Nagyvázsony was handed over. Regional Development Minister Tibor Navracsics emphasized at Thursday's opening that the cultural investment strengthens the identity of the entire region and local communities.
Tibor Navracsics called it gratifying that the castle could be renovated in the historical center of the region, and that the settlement was given a chance to be part of Hungarian cultural history.
As he said, the National Castle and Castle Program - in which 17 castles and 12 castles are renewed - is a fine example of how the past can be seen through the future with the help of IT solutions.
The minister stated that culture acts as an engine of the economy and strengthens the region, which can also show its strengths to Europe, as a participant in the Veszprém-Balaton European Capital of Culture Program.
Zsanett Oláh, the managing director of the National Heritage Protection Development Nonprofit Kft. (NÖF), emphasized that the task of national heritage protection is to preserve in a dignified manner everything that our ancestors left us.
Szabolcs Fábry, the mayor of Nagyvázsony, recalled that the will of the castle's namesake, Pál Kinizsi, was shown in many cases. As he said, this willpower, which was able to rebuild the settlement from scratch, is characteristic of Nagyvázsony's history as well. Seventy properties were renewed in the surroundings of the castle, 22 businesses were started or renewed, the mayor emphasized.
From Friday, the general public can visit the Kinizsi Castle, renovated with 1.6 billion forints, where the event space, the exhibition space and the residential tower have been renewed. The residential tower has a suite for Benigna Magyar, the wife of Pál Kinizsi, who lived there for about 25 years. You can see here, among other things, a chess set, which was reconstructed on the basis of three found chess pieces.
