The gendarmerie punished Balázs Izsák for organizing the Székely Freedom Day. On March 16, 2023, the Marosszentgyörgy unit of the Maros county gendarmerie issued a criminal report to Izsák Balázs, the president of the Székely National Council, which was delivered by post on March 23.

The Press Service of the Székely National Council:

We remind the public that the Székely National Council again organized the Székely Freedom Day in Marosvásárhely on March 10, 2023, which was attended by about 1,500-2,000 people. The aforementioned protocol qualifies this event as "forbidden", despite the fact that the Marosvásárhely Mayor's Office did not issue a banning decision.

The fine of 1,000 lei was imposed for holding a "forbidden" public event. The protocol confirms the gendarmerie's approach that Romanian laws prohibit the dissemination of ideas about regionalization and territorial autonomy, and that territorial autonomy demanded "on the basis of ethnic criteria" is downright chauvinism. The president of the Székely National Council will not pay the amount of the fine, instead he will initiate a legal remedy procedure to annul the protocol and the fine.

At the same time, we draw the attention of those who participated in the Székely Freedom Day, either in the commemoration or in the parade, that if they receive a similar criminal report, they should immediately inform the Székely National Council (szntiroda@gmail.com) so that we can start the appeal within the deadline the legal remedy procedure.
