EP representative Balázs Hidvéghi announced on his Facebook page that in Brussels they want to impose the mandatory distribution of migrants on the member states again.
According to him, the most amazing point of the proposal is that in migration crisis situations, a distribution system managed by the European Commission without a central and upper limit would be created, which would oblige the member states to take in migrants en masse. All this without ascertaining whether the given person is entitled to asylum or not. The icing on the cake is that the migrants themselves would be able to say in which Member State they would like to be accommodated. Moreover, certain groups of arrivals would be granted asylum "on sight", if the European Commission deems it necessary.
The representative sees that the proposals would provide an opportunity to punish the border guards on the basis of all kinds of false accusations. The new rules would not only prevent abuse of the right to asylum, but would also be a breeding ground for abuse.
In his post, Balázs Hidvéghi repeated the Hungarian position:
quotas and mandatory distribution are a dead end, borders must be protected, and only persons who are truly entitled to protection can be admitted to the territory of the European Union. He sees the only solution in the assessment of applications outside the EU, because any other solution will lead to mass abuse and continuous migration crises.
