According to a new bill, those Italians who use English or other foreign language expressions in their official communication would become punishable, reports CNN .

According to the article published in Magyar Hírlap, the bill was submitted by Giorgia Meloni's party partner, Fabio Rampelli, and is supported by the Prime Minister himself.

Although the ban would apply to all foreign languages, it would specifically target "Anglomania", the rise of English words, which they say devalues and degrades the Italian language.

24.hu reported .

They write that the law would require all public office holders to have a high level of sophistication in written and spoken Italian, and would also prohibit companies from using English abbreviations or job titles.

They even state that Italian should be the primary language in offices dealing with foreigners.

According to the bill, Anglomania affects the whole society. However, if the law comes into force and someone violates it during their official communication, they will have to reach deep into their pockets, because they can expect a fine of between 5,000 and 100,000 euros.
