It is extremely important to build an independent, strong defense industry, said the Minister of National Defense after his visit to Rheinmetall's factory in Germany.
Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky said in Unterlüss, Lower Saxony, that in order to guarantee the safety of the Hungarian people, weapons must be purchased, according to a statement sent to MTI by the Ministry of Defense on Wednesday.
Hungary has already reached the point where it not only buys weapons, but also their manufacturers are located in Hungary, "and together we produce the tools that will be the future tools of the renewed Hungarian armed forces," the announcement reads. They added that the existing cooperation with the German company Rheinmetall - which had already risen to the level of a strategic partnership - began long before more and more countries began to develop their forces as a result of the war situation.
Thanks to the partnership, the Lynx armored infantry fighting vehicle is being manufactured in Zalaegerszeg, as a result of which the Hungarian armed forces will be strengthened by equipment rolling off the production line in Zalaegerszeg in addition to German ones, they wrote.
The ministry called the ammunition factory in Várpalota, which is being built in a joint project with Rheinmetall, equally important, the importance of which - as written - is emphasized by the fact that ammunition production is now an issue and problem affecting the whole of Europe.
According to the communiqué, Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky also reported that, during his visit to the Unterlüss factory, they held talks with Rheinmetall managers about the current situation of cooperation aimed at the further development of the Hungarian armed forces, as well as its future directions and possibilities.
It was not only about the acquisition of equipment, but also about production opportunities in Hungary - the ministry explained in detail, indicating that in addition to strengthening the armed forces, it is also extremely important to build an independent, strong defense industry, which, in addition to ensuring the supply chain of the Hungarian armed forces, can also strengthen the Hungarian economy.Source: Magyar Hírlap/MTI
