In order to preserve the natural heritage, in the past 12 years, Hungary has implemented nature conservation investments to an unprecedented extent, said the Minister of Agriculture on Friday at the ceremony on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the country's first national park in Hortobágy.
István Nagy explained:
through the 465 unique investments and projects with a total value of more than HUF 90 billion, mostly implemented by national park directorates, the condition of habitats has been improved or is being improved on more than 300,000 hectares, and the infrastructural conditions for nature conservation management are ensured.
Within the framework of the relevant operational programs, 51 percent of the funds that could be used for nature conservation developments went to habitat reconstruction investments, adding to this the sums spent on species conservation projects and the development of nature conservation area management, this ratio is 73 percent, the minister indicated.
The country's first national park, the Hortobágy National Park (HNP), was founded on January 1, 1973.
