Construction and Transport Minister János Lázár spoke about the importance of the development of the countryside and its relationship with tourism on Thursday at the handover of the five-star Minaro Hotel in Tokaj, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county.
János Lázár said that Fidesz politicians, including himself, think that "this country is not ready yet" and that Hungary is "in the 70-80 percent range" compared to the average level of development in the European Union.
He added that they are sure that the country's reserve is the countryside, and the government's goal in this area is twofold.
On the one hand, they want to create in the Miskolc-Debrecen-Nyíregyháza zone an "economic zone that will become the most developed industrial economic zone in Hungary" and which will be competitive with Budapest and Győr. He emphasized that the development of the economic zone in Debrecen alone will mean spending one thousand billion forints in the coming years. The development of rural tourism will greatly contribute to this, he added.
The minister emphasized: a five-star hotel is an investment for a region that proves that it is not only good to live in the countryside, but also worth investing in. The government wants to contribute to this when it develops the infrastructure, emphasized János Lázár.
He mentioned the construction of the Miskolc-Kassa highway as their greatest success, and highlighted the four-lane road 37 and the launch of the Tokaj-Zemplén Development Program.
He stated: the government is determined to further develop Tokaj and provide opportunities.
At the opening, Zsófia Koncz, the region's Fidesz parliamentary representative, spoke about how the new jobs created by the investment can be linked to the region's features and tourism.
