The National Theater announced its 2023-2024 season under the title Season of Kings, in which the company will present nine shows. The next season was given this title because almost every new production features monarchs. The events of the Theater Olympics will last until the middle of October, but the 10th MITEM festival will also be held in the fall, said Attila Vidnyánszky, the general manager of the National Theater at the press conference announcing the season on Friday.
He highlighted: a number of world-famous foreign directors are returning to the National Theatre. In September, the audience can see Bánk bán, directed by the director of the theater, which will be a new generation production, said Attila Vidnyánszky. Zoltán Rátóti directs two Ferenc Molnár plays: One, Two, Three and The Violet, in which great actors such as Gyula Bodrogi and Ádám Schnell take the stage.
Students of SZFE will also appear in the lectures. The performance of Brecht: Mama Kurázsi, directed by the Greek Theodórosz Terzopoulosz, starring Nelli Szűcs, and Gogol: The Auditor, directed by the Georgian Avtandil Varzimasvili, starring Zsolt Trill, Nelli Szűcs and Péter Herczeg.
Attila Vidnyánszky will stage his folk opera Tamás Toót-Holló: Golden Threesome. Nándor Berettyán directs Sándor Sík's King István - we will see Zoltán Rátóti in the role of King István. The great Russian director Valery Fokin is staging Shakespeare: King Lear with Ottó Lajos Horváth in the lead role. Tamás Szarka's gypsy ballad Esthajnal will be directed by Attila Vidnyánszky, as will the performance Irredenta cabaret, which evokes the world of a bygone era through songs, literary texts and reminiscences from the 20s and 30s.
"At the moment, this season is still raging, and the Theater Olympics fills our every moment. After that, we will hand over the baton to the summer theaters," said Attila Vidnyánszky at the National Theatre's press conference.
He also added that in recent years, a rich repertoire has been built up, from the youngest to performances intended for the adult generation, more than thirty productions, a multitude of foreign, Hungarian and contemporary authors await the audience.
The company of the National Theater is being expanded by three young talents: István Madácsi, Hanga Martos and Ágota Szilágyi are joining - Attila Vidnyánszky announced.
