In a tradition-creating manner, this year, a forest school was held in Mátraverebély-Szentkút in cooperation with the Pázmány Péter Catholic University's Creation Conservation Research Institute and the Temesvári Pelbárt Ferences High School in Esztergom, the University's Creation Conservation Research Institute announced.
During the forest school, which lasted for two weeks, a total of three classes were able to learn about the most important issues of conservation of creation, following the Hymn of the Day of St. Francis of Assisi. Earth, water, air, forests and fire - the children explored the individual topics in playful sessions, and while the experts in each field introduced them to the theoretical knowledge, they were able to put the knowledge acquired in the morning into practice in external field sessions in the afternoons. Composting, farmland, renewable energy sources, biodiversity, climate change, artificial intelligence, drones, disaster prevention - to name just a few examples from the curriculum. The theory was followed by practice every day: the students measured water flow, flew drones, visited a sheep farm, simulated an alarm at the fire department, visited the surrounding forests, or even measured spring flow.
Saint Francis of Assisi would probably be amazed to know that eight hundred years later his thoughts were systematized and given a name: creation protection. The original foundations have withstood the test of time and are more relevant than ever, and the students were able to acquire hundreds of years of knowledge with modern tools in accordance with the challenges of the time.Source: Magyar Hírlap
