A war between Russia and NATO cannot be ruled out. If it were to break out, the Czech Republic would be a part of it from the first moment, said Karel Rehka, the Chief of Staff of the Czech Army, at a security policy conference in Prague on Monday.

Such a scenario can only be defended with preparation and deterrence, he stated.

"A war between Russia and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which is the worst scenario for us, is not impossible, it is possible," Karel Rehka pointed out at the conference "Internal Security and State Resilience" in the Czech House of Representatives. According to the chief of staff, the Czech army is trying to prepare for a "high-intensity conflict" with a very technologically advanced adversary, Russia.

If the Russia-NATO war were to break out, most of the Czech army would immediately join the fighting based on the alliance's plans. The Czech military politician pointed out: The Czech Republic forms a corridor between NATO's western, eastern and southeastern wings. The Czech Republic should ensure the passage of armies from west to east, which is a "fundamental task". He believed that in order to ensure this, the Czech army would also need the support of the other ministries, which is why they should also take into account the possibility of the outbreak of war in their development concept.

Considering also the war in Ukraine, Karel Rehka called it important to increase the resistance of the Czech state, for example in the field of raw material supply. He spoke of the significant dependence of the Czech state on China in the field of telecommunications as a problem to be solved.

At the end of the day, the Czechs were only hawking what the American and European husks, pro-war politicians. But the prerogative of a politician to talk nonsense is much more serious when it is said by a soldier. Of course, he is right that the defense capability of the country must be raised to the highest possible level, but it borders on insanity if he does not envision the importance of avoiding war, but the realistic possibility of it.

Being a soldier, you might suspect that the most important thing in a Russia-NATO conflict would not be to create a corridor between the Eastern and Western armies, because - dear Mr. Rehka - the atomic bomb does not spare the corridors either. However, the possibility that neither side will use nuclear weapons in a possible conflict is almost impossible.

Rather, what Viktor Orbán is doing should be emphasized: the only reasonable alternative to war is a cease-fire and subsequent peace.
