Among the world heritage sites, the Hungarian capital is the most popular, according to an international survey.
The ranking of the 30 most popular UNESCO World Heritage sites was carried out by the British portal Weloveholidays.com. The ranking was based on the number of five-star reviews given to the World Heritage Site on TripAdvisor and the number of positive Twitter posts shared in the last six months.
Based on both factors, each cultural location received a maximum of 100 points - the more points, the higher the ranking. Budapest finished at the top of the popularity ranking with 53.8 points.
The creators of the list counted more than 124,000 positive posts and 4,393 five-star reviews of the attractions on Twitter.
The city of Lübeck in Germany took second place. Lübeck has received 1,355 five-star reviews on TripAdvisor. Furthermore, with more than 127,000 positive Twitter posts, the Hanseatic city is ahead of all other locations on the hit list and received a total of 51.5 points, Mandiner wrote.
The Tower of London was placed third on the podium, with more than 45,000 five-star ratings and around 20,000 Twitter posts.
Other places in the top ten include the works of Antoni Gaudí in Catalonia, the Alhambra, Generalife and Albaicín in Granada, and Schönbrunn Palace and its garden in Vienna.
