"It is bad news for the European Parliament, which attacks us insidiously, that they voted completely unnecessarily on the proposal condemning our country," Judit Varga said on her Facebook page.
According to the head of the Ministry of Justice, Hungary cannot be deprived of the position of EU presidency due in the second half of 2024. The head of the ministry stated in Hír TV's Napi Aktuális program that the EP vote was unnecessary, because the preparation work for the 2024 presidency is already in full swing in our country.
Judit Varga stated: the EP has no possibility of the left-liberal majority of the body preventing Hungary's EU presidency.
"The EP has no responsibilities in this regard, it is only a political institution," the head of the ministry pointed out.
Judit Varga also mentioned that preparations for the Hungarian EU presidency are progressing well with the member states and the General Secretariat of the Council (which is a professional organization).
The minister sees it this way: the EP is trying to prevent our country from leading the union for half a year because it is frustrated, because one of the priority agenda items of the Hungarian presidency will be the examination of the rule of law. And the Hungarian presidency would extend the rule of law investigation to the European Parliament as well, checking whether the EP complies with the relevant regulations.
