The home of American presidents is holding the largest Pride celebration in its history: Joe Biden is hosting thousands of LGBTQ members.
The Democratic president of the United States announced new initiatives to "protect LGBTQ+ communities from attacks, help youth and the homeless with mental health resources, and prevent the banning of books about LGBTQ+," White House officials said, according to APNews. Hungarian Newspaper.
The White House was worried whether the dangerous smoke from the Canadian forest fires would endanger the Thursday evening picnic, where plenty of food, games and face painting await the guests.
Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House's first openly gay press secretary, said Vice President Biden and Kamala Harris and their spouses are strong supporters of the LGBTQ+ community and believe the celebration is an important way to raise awareness of all of that.
