For a day, we can hide in the shoes of World War II couriers, June 14-19, 2023. for the third time, the Polish Institute organizes the project In the Footsteps of Tatra Couriers.

The project called In the Footsteps of the Tatra Couriers commemorates the Polish Tatra couriers who smuggled orders, money, microfilms and reports on the activities of the German and Soviet occupiers in Poland through the Tatra between 1939-1944. They also helped those Polish officers and soldiers who wanted to continue fighting in the ranks of the Polish army organized in the west to get to Hungary. Most of the couriers were mountain guides, mountain rescuers, excellent and multiple champion skiers who risked their own lives and those of their loved ones to do this service.

The main attraction of this year's program will be an open-air historical adventure game that promises many thrills, taking place in the neighborhood of the Polish Institute, on Jókai Square, during which participants can learn about the rules of conspiracy activity and experience the dangers that once lurked the couriers of the Polish Tatras.

The game's five stations symbolically recall the route of couriers in the Tatras. The tasks have different levels of difficulty according to age groups, so even younger children can participate in the game with adult supervision. Participants will receive a gift from the organizers.
