Gergely Karácsony told our ATV news channel "The government has paid out only 23 of the promised 50 billion forints," the mayor reminded. Krisztina Baranyi IX. the participation of the district mayor is also highly doubtful. Meanwhile, according to a survey, the people of Budapest expect cooperation and not war from Gergely Karácsony.

"We stopped halfway, and we regret it very much,

because we did everything in order to fulfill our commitments"

- said Karácsony.

Krisztina Baranyi's participation is also doubtful

The mayor then added that the commitments from the other side were not fulfilled. As he said, if the government wants the mayor and the IX. the mayor of the district should be present at the opening in August, and the celebration should be a success in front of the whole world, then they must comply with the agreement.

"At least the negotiation processes should start on which projects will receive money"

he explained.

"We can't do anything but the publicity that the World Athletics Championships will attract to Hungary, we will use this to say: the government did not keep its word regarding the investment," the mayor told the news station's staff .

The people of Budapest expect cooperation and not war from Gergely Karácsony

According to 95 percent of adult Budapest residents, it is important that the mayor of Budapest, Gergely Karácsony, be able to cooperate with the Hungarian government; 92 percent also expect him to deal with local and not national issues during his term of office

- this is revealed in a public opinion poll conducted by the Fundamental Rights Center with a survey of 1,000 Budapest residents, the results of which were reported to MTI on Tuesday.

The analysis institute's announcement recalled that in less than a year, there will be municipal elections in Hungary, at which Budapest voters can also decide on the mandate of the mayor, who has been in office since 2019.

According to the assessment of the Basic Rights Center, Gergely Karácsony's term as city manager "cannot be called a success story." They added: after 2018, he was also "busy cherishing" his ambitions to become prime minister in 2022, while putting the affairs of the capital in the hands of the deputy mayors and advisers appointed by Ferenc Gyurcsány. The communiqué called it a consequence that

Budapest has been used as a battlefield, the main base of the "resistance" ever since.

They also reminded that Ferenc Gyurcsány, the president of the Democratic Coalition, told Gergely Karácsony one year before the elections that the capital should be used for even more direct political purposes.

"We know the result: political and economic bankruptcy, pro-war pronouncements, unilateral non-compliance with previous agreements, continuous search for conflict with the Hungarian government characterize the period that has passed since then. It is just icing on the cake that, according to the mayor, it is not irresponsible to spread fake news like Hungary is at war with Russia in these dire times," reads the announcement.

According to the Center for Fundamental Rights

the mayoralty subordinated to political goals "can also be seen in action in the numbers"; respondents from the capital city "surely do not expect this from the elected local leader".

On the other hand, what is important for them is that the mayor of Budapest should not implement unnecessary debates and sham measures, but should be able to cooperate with the government, "in a way like when István Tarlós was the mayor", they said, also indicating that there is agreement across party political camps. 95 percent of pro-government respondents, while 94 percent of respondents critical of the government share the position of supporting cooperation, the summary states.

The Center for Fundamental Rights continued that people living in the capital

not only the lack of cooperation is "looked down upon", but also when an elected politician does not concentrate on his duties.

Gergely Karácsony is often busy representing matters of national importance and not solving problems that serve the interests of the citizens of Budapest.

The announcement calls the "opinion climate" clear: 92 percent of those surveyed in Budapest said that the mayor should mostly or entirely deal with local matters. As noted, there is also agreement in the assessment of this question between those who sympathize with the government and those who are critical of it.

"Seeing the numbers, it is not surprising that Ferenc Gyurcsány has not yet approved Karácsony's bid for the post of mayor. Just as in 2019, so in 2024, DK can try to dominate the opposition field again with an independent candidate," the announcement concludes.
