As Macron talks about a new financial deal, it remains unclear to this day whether France has been levying taxes on CFA francs in former African colonies.
He is ready to talk to Vladimir Putin on the phone if he calls him, but he has no reason to call the Russian president - among other things, French President Emmanuel Macron spoke about this, as he gave several interviews at the two-day Paris summit on the global financial pact that ended on Friday. According to Macron, who also attacked China in his statements, the current financial system is outdated.
As a guest of the Friday program of France Info, RFI and France 24, the head of state emphasized the economic and climate challenges that he believes the West must face. At the initiative of President Macron, the summit on a new global financial pact to address climate challenges was held in the French capital on Thursday and Friday
about fifty heads of state and government arrived,
Germany, Brazil, Senegal and Zambia were also represented at the highest levels. Representatives from a total of about one hundred states appeared at the event.
It would win the "coal battle"
summed up the stakes of the summit in the following way on France Info's Friday morning show :
"Debt restructuring with country-by-country deals and getting us to spend more on it."
An agreement between rich and emerging countries, Macron stated about the set goal. In other statements, the head of state talked about the global agreement with southern countries. (A significant number of African guests appeared at the meeting, whom Macron welcomed with familiar gestures, accompanied by his wife.) He added: “And
first of all, we need to reduce the use of coal, so we win the climate battle.”
Macron has repeatedly stated that no country should be put in a situation where it has to choose between poverty alleviation and the fight against climate change.
China does not tax
Regarding the climate tax, Macron pointed out that "France has already introduced a tax on financial transactions, but it will not work if we are left alone". For example, the way out would be if international taxation could be introduced in the field of shipping together with China, he added.
Macron, clearly aiming at China, spoke of a country where
"socialism and international taxation do not work either".
Those private militias…
Moscow was a big absentee from the financial summit, writes Le Figaro, which Macron highlighted as a reflection of Russia's isolation. He added that he is ready to talk to Vladimir Putin on the phone if he calls him, but he has no reason to call the Russian president.
According to Macron, Russia behaved voluntarily
"into the position of once again becoming one of the last colonial powers of the 21st century by waging an imperial war against its neighbor Ukraine and destabilizing Africa through private militias".
Macron stated: Russia's decisions do not play a useful role for the international community.
pushed France and its armed forces out of most of its former colonies in Africa with the help of the Wagner group militias, among other things While Macron was talking about a new financial agreement, it was not clear to this day whether France collected taxes on the so-called CFA franc (African currency community franc), which is still in circulation today as a means of keeping the former African colonies under control.
