In his election campaign, Gergely Karácsony promised to make Budapest greener and more livable, one of the cornerstones of which was the removal of air-poisoning cars from the capital. For this, he considered it essential to create as many free public relations parking lots as possible in the city limits, where employees coming from the agglomeration can park their cars and transfer to public transport. Although not enough parking lots have been built, what is there will also be paid for from now on. There is also a cynical explanation: this will make it easier to get to a parking space...
From the first of July, Saturday, the P+R parking lots in Kelenföld will operate as guarded, paid waiting areas in accordance with the previous decision of the Metropolitan Assembly.
Between 6 in the morning and 10 in the evening, you can occasionally use the P+R parking lots for HUF 350, and at night - i.e. from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. - you can park for HUF 105/hour - the operator Budapest Közút told MTI.
As it was written, with the introduction of fee payment, these parking lots will be able to perform a P+R function in their entirety, the phenomenon of long-term non-P+R parking may cease, and it will be easier to find a parking space.
The Őrmező P1, P2, and the Etele tér P1, P2 parking lots were established as part of the metro 4 investment in the Kelenföld railway station area, with a total of 1,453 waiting spaces. The project was supported by the European Union, the condition of which was that the parking lots operate free of charge for five years. The maintenance period for the four P+R parking lots began on November 18, 2017 and lasted until November 17, 2022, after which the restrictions regarding the possibility of charging fees were removed.
The P+R car parks in Kelenföld are open from 0 to 24 hours every day of the year, so they can be used on weekends and holidays for a fee both day and night.
A camera system ensures the safety of vehicles left in the parking lots.
Budapest Közút also announced that the night fee payment will also be introduced in the other P+R parking lots owned by the capital and currently operated by them (Köki Terminál, Kőbánya-Kispest, Hűvösvölgy P1, Örs vezért tere, Pillangó utca, Újpest-Városkapu) in July from the first.
