With more than half a million unique users and a large number of downloads, the Hungarian system has already overtaken similar Austrian, New Zealand and British applications, and in addition to transparency, it also resulted in the appearance of a daily price competition in Hungary.
The online price monitoring system has proven to be an effective development to break inflation, to "compete effectively against sanctioned inflation", said government spokeswoman Alexandra Szentkirályi on Wednesday at a press conference in Budaörs, which she held together with Balázs Csaba Rigó, president of the Economic Competition Authority (GVH).
Regarding the system launched on the first of July, the government spokesperson said that over the past 10 days, half a million people have downloaded the arhielo.gvh.hu page individually, and the 35 million interactions are also due to the practical operation.
On the site, you can find products from 1,200 stores in more than 60 product categories, transparent and comparable prices are updated daily.
Alexandra Szentkirályi drew attention to the fact that the rate of mandatory promotions will increase from 10 to 15 percent on August 1st.
From the first of August, the amount and scope of use of the SZÉP card will be expanded. Alexandra Szentkirályi highlighted that the government's goal is for people to pay as little as possible in stores and for the inflation rate to drop to single digits by the end of the year.
Balázs Csaba Rigó reported that with more than half a million unique users and a large number of downloads, the Hungarian system has already overtaken similar Austrian, New Zealand and British applications. He pointed out that, in addition to transparency, the great benefit of the system is that it essentially introduced daily price competition in Hungary.
At the Wednesday meeting of the working group cooperating in the development of the price monitor, he said that the development will continue until the end of the year, in which feedback will play a major role.
Among the changes introduced in the short term, he mentioned that "by the time the Hungarians return from vacation, there will be a sharable shopping list and shopping basket, and there will be more precise filtering and search options in the system."
The working group - whose members are the Ministry of Economic Development (GFM), the Ministry of Justice (IM) and the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) in addition to the national competition authority - works to ensure that the price watcher ensures the comparability of prices as effectively as possible and contributes as much as possible to strengthen market competition, thereby reducing consumer prices and breaking inflation.
