Lajos Balázs Balázsovits, a Hungarian actor, theater director and theater director who won the Béla Prize, died at the age of seventy-six, a worthy artist and a lifelong member of the Society of the Immortals. On June 22 of last year, he was elected Actor of the Nation in place of the deceased Péter Haumann.
Lajos Balázsovits was born in Nagykanizsa in 1946, he was admitted to the Theater and Film Academy in 1965, where he graduated in 1969. As a college student, he appeared several times in the performances of the Madách Theater, and after graduating, he joined the theater company. From 1974, he was a member of the Vígszínház, then from 1979, of the Mafilm troupe, and from 1982 to 1990, he was again an artist of the Madách Theater. In 1991, he signed a contract with the National Theatre, and from 1992 to 2012 he managed the Budapest Theater.
He started filming while still in college, and became one of Miklós Jancsó's permanent actors as a freshman. From the 1990s, however, he again focused on the world of theater in addition to acting roles as a director and theater director. However, he did not turn down Miklós Jancsó's invitations either: he also played in the films God Goes Backward, Blue Danube Waltz, Mohács Disaster and Ede's Megévé ľádemem. He retired from the theater in 2018, and since then has devoted all his time to his family.
Lajos Balázsovits received the Béla Balázs Award in 1982, was elected a Merited Artist in 1987, and since 2015 has been a Hereditary Member of the Society of the Immortals. In 2020, the mayor of Nagykanizsa elected him honorary citizen of the city.
