Victor Ponta, former Prime Minister of Romania, spoke positively about Viktor Orbán's visit to Bucharest and called the ironic comments made in the Tusnádfürdő speech understandable.
The former social democratic politician - who lost the presidential election to Klaus Iohannis in 2014 - said in the video podcast program of the Gandul portal: Orbán was rightly ironic about Romania.
He had fun with us. We are a country of fools if we keep changing prime ministers. Drawing from the material we offer, he was ironic - said Ponta.
He also talked about the fact that many people in Romania think like Orbán about Europe, where slowly nothing else is important except LGBTQ and Ukraine.
"European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has just stated that she appreciates the reforms in Ukraine. Ms. Ursula, say something about Europe or go to Kiev and give your place to someone else," the former Prime Minister remarked.
The founder of the non-parliamentary Pro Romania Party said that Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu made the right decision when he invited Viktor Orbán to a meeting. He added that he had met Orbán several times privately, whom he knew as a very pragmatic politician.
Why should it bother you that Orbán is fighting for his own country? What bothers me is that Iohannis is not fighting for Romania - emphasized Ponta, who also criticized Ciolacu for his lenient attitude towards the European Commission.
Regarding the demarcation of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the former prime minister said that he had visited at least fifty countries as a politician, but nowhere did the foreign ministry of the given state dictate to him what he could talk about.
"What bad things did Orbán say about Romania? Why can't you talk about LGBTQ? Moreover, they are doing this with Orbán, who they can count on to do what he finally did in his presentation, to mock the foreign affairs," said Victor Ponta, who said that with the preliminary verbal list, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs simply defended itself in Brussels.
