Twelve consortia of news organizations have benefited from EU funding for cross-border projects totaling EUR 14 million, which aims to strengthen the news media sector over the next two years, the European Commission announced on Thursday. Among the beneficiaries, Média1 found 444, Átlátszó Erdély and Nyugat.hu.
The publisher of 444.hu, Magyar Jeti Zrt., is participating in a project dealing with the production of podcasts, the entire project received 2.44 million euros. And Átlátszó Erdély will receive a total of 519,000 euros in support for financially sustainable independent public interest journalism.
In addition, 444 is also the leader of the five-member consortium which, with the cooperation of the Dutch Bellingcat foundation, among others, undertook to act against Russian and Chinese propaganda in the countries on the eastern borders of the EU, for example by creating a joint English-language website. This project won more than 1 million euros from the European Union.
