It is forbidden to discharge the condensate from the air conditioner into the street in Zugló. An apartment building also called on the residents to fix the water drainage, otherwise they would be hit with a brutal fine.
By the middle of August, the residents have to resolve the internal drainage of the condensate produced in the indoor unit of the air conditioner.
They can be fined heavily
The capital has also regulated that in Zugló, condensate cannot be led to public areas, so anyone who is reported can expect a serious fine.
Budapest Capital XIV. 10/2021 of the district representative body. (III. 26.) municipal decree on the protection of the city image of Zugló
- Air conditioning and heat pump
- § (4) Condensate water from the equipment may not be piped to the public area or to the area of another plot of land other than one's own plot.
The Óbuda case
A few months ago, a similar case caused outrage, in which the municipality of Óbuda introduced strict regulations for the drainage of condensate water from air conditioning systems, after problems allegedly arose due to a report by a local resident.
As a result, 115 apartment owners living in a ten-story panel building were obliged to disassemble the air conditioners and re-route the water generated during the operation of the devices back into the apartments.
In the event of a violation of the regulations, all home owners were threatened with the prospect of a HUF 100,000 fine.
The residential community was understandably indignant, since the air conditioners were installed in the houses ten years earlier as part of the panel program, and at that time no one indicated that the draining of the condensate could be a problem.
The municipality is now retroactively tightening the rules, but it did not apply the same strictness to other housing communities. refers to the building regulations , which prohibits the external placement of air conditioning equipment on the facades, as well as the
the outlet of air conditioning equipment cannot be led outside the facade
However, they did not receive an answer as to why such regulations are being held accountable only for this specific residential community and retroactively.
It can also mean a conversion of hundreds of thousands
Condensate drainage from air conditioning systems presents residents with a serious technical and financial challenge. One possible solution could be to channel the water inside the room into a bucket or other container, which must be emptied at least daily.
Most people choose this solution, the ones we asked use this actually distilled water to water the flowers or to replace the water in the aquarium. If there is a balcony, the dripping water can be led there, but here too it has to be collected in a tank, or a trickle water pump can be installed, which can cost HUF 80-100 thousand, plus the piping, but with this the water can be sent to the sewage network.
The best case is when the residents can drain their water into a common rain channel, but unfortunately this is not the case everywhere. The air-conditioning difficulties do not end here, since if the air-conditioning is also used for heating in winter, the drainage of the melt water also poses an additional challenge.
