One of the suspects, György N., whose nine-year-old son killed the collared protected animal near Hidasnémeti, according to the data so far, may receive up to 12 years as a collective punishment.

The competent investigative judge will decide on the arrest of György N. and his co-suspect on Friday.

The two Nyírsé hunters, György N. and his companion, were arrested on August 2 as a result of the investigation launched due to the shot of the Swiss wolf; The operations unit of the Counter-Terrorism Center was alerted to the arrest of György N., as he possesses several hunting weapons with bullets and shotguns. In this case, the involvement of TEK is mandatory. His partner was taken into custody with the help of detectives from the National Bureau of Investigation.

If proven, one of them, György N., can be sentenced to up to 12 years in prison as a cumulative penalty, his partner can expect 1-5 years in prison.

It turned out that the protected Swiss wolf was shot by György N.'s 9-year-old son in the Hidasnémeti area with one of his father's pellet hunting weapons.

"2023. on April 1, one man left his nine-year-old child in the care of the other so that they could go hunting in the outskirts of Hidasnémeti. For this, the man provided the little boy with his licensed hunting weapon. While the child was being supervised by the other suspect, the child shot the wolf worth HUF 250,000. It was then placed on the car owned by the father, and the father then cut the beacon from the corpse, which was thrown into the Hernád; the body was not found," the spokesperson of the Attorney General's Office told BOON.

The prosecutor is currently suspecting the father of the crime of natural damage, the crime of endangering a minor, the crime of misusing a firearm, and large-value damage, because the value of the beacon is four thousand euros. The other man is charged with the crime of damaging nature and the crime of endangering a minor.

Many people followed the migration of the highly protected animal equipped with the M237 beacon, as the tracking device on it constantly indicated where the wolf was going and where it was finding a new family.

However, at the beginning of April, the tracker became silent, and within a very short time it was suggested that the wolf on the road might have died.

The investigation was ordered - on the basis of the signal from the Aggtelek National Park - against an unknown culprit for committing the crime of natural damage.

Based on the obtained data, the investigators determined that the protected wolf was allegedly killed on the outskirts of Hidasnémeti on April 1st.

The investigation also pointed out that the members of the company were also aware that it was a protected predator, but at the same time, the authorities still have no information about the whereabouts of the dead animal.
